- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
- Pink
Fairies
"What A Bunch Of
Sweeties"
1972 (UK)
- Simply put, the Pink
Fairies were the missing link between the hippies and the punks. Though
little known in the USA (at least before the Internet), the Pinks'
deafeningly loose jamrock achieved a certain notoriety on the festival
circuit in Britain. They often played with Hawkwind (sometimes jamming
together as "Pinkwind.") The Fairies were founded by a fellow called
Twink (formerly of Tomorrow, The Aquarian Age and The Pretty Things),
though he departed after their first single and album. Which left
Canadian-born guitarist Paul Rudolph in charge for this, their second LP
(along with the redoubtable rhythm section of Russell Hunter & Sandy
Sanderson, formerly of Mick Farren's Deviants.)
