- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
- Klaatu "Sir Army
Suit"
1978 (Canada)
- Klaatu was a great
art-pop band from Toronto whose career was sidelined by an unfortunate
rumor that they were "The Beatles, secretly recording together again
under a different name!" The boost their first album got from this
mistaken impression (fed by their record company) unfortunately led to
an inevitable backlash from which they were never able to recover,
though they did labor on in obscurity and release five albums in total.
Do they sound like The Beatles? Yes! And also The Moody Blues and Pink
Floyd and other classic British psych-pop of the late 1960's. Their 3rd
LP "Sir Army Suit" is my favorite -- it's simply a fine bunch of tunes,
exquisitely recorded (the Klaatu guys had day jobs working in a
recording studio.)

the animated video for "A Routine Day" from this album (poor quality,
originally taped off of Canadian TV, but still cool!) And here's the
official
website for
Klaatuvians worldwide.
