- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
- Scott Walker "Scott
2" 1968
(UK/USA)
- As the title
indicates, this was Mr. Walker's second solo album. Scott Walker
had previously been the leader of the Walker Brothers, an expatriate
singing group who left the USA for London in the mid-1960's hoping to
make it as part of the British invasion (furthermore, the Walker
Brothers were not brothers, and none of them were named Walker either --
Scott's real last name is Engel.) When he went solo in 1967 he was quite
successful in the UK for his unique "Tony Bennett on acid" style and
outrageous English-language versions of Jacques Brel tunes (he even had
his own TV show for a while!) This was his best selling LP, and includes
the far-out UK hit "Jackie."
