- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE
WEEK
- Zolar X "Timeless" recorded 1974-80, released 2004 (Plutonia / USA)
- Until
recently, Zolar X was a forgotten footnote from LA's glam scene -- a
few people remembered the wacky band that dressed up like aliens (they
once gigged with the likes of The Stooges & NY Dolls), but their
independently released & poorly distributed records were rarer than
rare. Fortunately Jello Biafra stumbled across their recordings,
became a devoted fan and eventually gave the band's music a proper
release on his Alternative Tentacles label in 2004. You'll
be amazed at how good they actually were! Quoth Jello: "The
missing link between The Stooges and Chrome!" Even more amazing
still, a new version of the band (2/3 original members) recently went
out on tour (I saw 'em at VNUK'S TAVERN in Cudahy, WI) AND they are working
on an album of brand new material for release in 2007! Also look for a video documentary coming soon . . . more
