- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
- Hampton Grease Band "Music To Eat" 1971 (USA)
- This
is one of the more unique albums in the history of rock -- it was a
dismal commercial flop, but verrry verrry eeenteresting music it is (to
eat.) Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa are your main reference points
of entry (in fact some of the guys in this band are thanked in the
liner notes to Zappa's "Lumpy Gravy"), but these guys had an
improvisational/progressive/southern style all it's own (they're from
Atlanta, GA.) Amazingly, Columbia actually reissued it on CD as part of
their Legacy series!
