- CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE
WEEK
- Chrome "Half Machine Lip Moves" 1979 (USA)
- This album
is one of the great "underground" recordings of all time. Chrome
was a little-known band from San Francisco that came into being about
the same time as punk rock, but maintained a deceidedly freaky
psychedelic edge and a morbid interest in SciFi dystopias.
Basically, they were "cyberpunks" in the truest sense, at least a
decade before that term was coined! This is their third album,
and the most indicative of the gonzo genius of Chrome at their best.
Founding member Damon Edge passed away a few years ago, but lead
guitarist & vocalist Helios Creed has maintained an active music
career, and occasionally still goes out on tour as "Chrome."
