Hatfield & The North (named for a highway exit sign near London) was a distinctive progressive rock supergroup which included former and current members of such Canterbury scene luminaries as Caravan, Matching Mole, Egg and Gong.  Their amalgamation of jazz and classical sounds in a rock context bears more than a little debt to Frank Zappa's pioneering work in the sixties, but is delivered by H&N in a uniquely British style.  The group's original run only produced two albums, their self-titled debut and this, their second and final studio album.  At least two more CD's of archival and live material have been released this century, and the group reunited for touring in 2005 which continued until drummer Pip Pyle passed away in August of 2006.
