For me, The Orb was always the most interesting of the 1990's techno-rave-electronica-whatchamacallit "bands."  Lead brain "Dr" Alex Patterson comes from the Brian Eno school of "ambient" music (and is one of the great wits when it comes to sampling), and collaborator Steve Hillage of Gong fame provided genuine progressive rock cred.  Throw in a light show worthy of Pink Floyd, trance-inducing beats ala Kraftwerk and trippy dub reggae style mixing and the results stand the test of time better than most of the trendy electro-beats of that era.  U.F.Orb was their second album, and topped the charts in Britain.
For this week's video stimulation, here's the video for the title track "U.F.Orb" (the beat doesn't kick in for almost 2 minutes, so be patient.)  And here's the video for the radio-length version of the single "The Blue Room" (the version on the album is over 17 minutes long, and the original single release is a mind-boggling 40 minutes!)  Finally here's another trippy video from a later album, "Pomme Fritz".
