The United States of America  "The United States of America"  1968 (USA)
Since it is Election Day in America, here's an obvious choice for CAOTW.  Led by Joe Byrd and featuring the vocals and lyrics of Dorothy Moskowitz, this eclectic sixties group's goal was to combine electronics with traditional Americana music as well as politics and performance art.  The group caused a minor underground sensation when they debuted (supposedly Nico once sought to join the group), but it is only in recent decades that this album has come to be seen as a classic from its era.  Byrd recorded a second classic psychedelic album with a different group the following year, The American Metaphysical Circus credited to Joe Byrd & The Field Hippies.
