A couple weeks ago I got to see Roky Erickson perform live at the Austin Psych Fest.  Back in the 1960's, Roky was one of the leaders of Austin's The 13th Floor Elevators, who fired one of the first shots in the psychedelic rock revolution.  This album, released in November 1966, was one of the first to use the word "psychedelic" in conjunction with rock music -- though the albums Psychedelic Moods by The Deep and Psychedelic Lollipop by The Blues Magoos came out that same month, I think most people would agree that the Elevators' record has been by far the most influential.
Here's Roky live in Austin May 1, 2011 at the Fest, an interview with Roky and two of The Black Angels, and The Black Angels backing up Roky on The 13th Floor Elevators' biggest hit "You're Gonna Miss Me".  Some other artists at this year's fest included Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group (aka "The Mars Volta"), Black Moth Super Rainbow and Dirty Beaches.
