Eno "Here Come The Warm Jets" 1974 (UK)

(Brian) Eno was the synthesizerist in Roxy Music, the weirdest British glam rock band of them all -- and he was by far the weirdest member of that weird group. After two albums with Roxy, he went solo and applied his "non-musician" oblique strategies to his debut album, Here Come The Warm Jets. This week's classic album is a seminal release that bridges the gap between Velvet Underground style primitivistic pop art experimentalism and the various forms of "alternative" rock from the 1980's to the present day. Eno only recorded four albums in the 1970's that could be considered "rock" music, since then he's mostly been making ambient and electronic music. Though he's never really had a hit of his own, he's been all over the pop charts for years providing his distinctive production to top-selling albums by such artists as David Bowie, Talking Heads, U2 and Coldplay.
Eno hasn't really performed live or done many videos, but a lot of what there is can be seen in this retrospective BBC documentary featuring Eno's greatest hits, and Imaginary Landscapes is a documentary with Brian explaining some of the innovative approaches to his art. Finally, bliss out to the ambient classic Music For Airports.
