In case you haven't noticed, it's Black History Month on the programme, and this week's classic album is a forgotten gem from "The Golden Age Of Hip-Hop (1986-1994)".  New Kingdom came along towards the end of the most frenzied era of the rap revolution -- during the end of the 1980's and early 1990's it seemed as if a new group with a hot new sound came along every month, and something was definitely percolating in the youth subculture (in retrospect, the rise of rap and grunge in the 1990's was either a resurrection of the values of the psychedelic era, or at least a last gasp).  NK's style encapsulated the times and seemed destined for greatness:  abstract bohemian lyrics and looks ala De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, a retro-stoner vibe akin to Cypress Hill (one of the best-selling groups of the day), plus fuzzed-out hard rock sounds for the grunge crowd.  Yet despite positive reviews, this record failed to sell and their follow-up 1996 album received even less notice and would be their last.  Decades later, the band has begun to receive some reconsideration-buzz from the musical blogosphere, although both of their albums are currently out of print.
