For our annual birthday special, Sir Paul and I present his greatest solo album, indeed the finest post-Beatles recording by any of the Fab Four. Band On The Run is the quintessential McCartney album, and though credited to his post-sixties group Wings, in fact the only musicians are Paul (who even plays the drum kit), his wife Linda (who really was not so much of a musician), and Denny Laine, and in spite of the famous Hollywood movie stars posing on the cover, it was recorded in Nigeria of all places. Whatever the reason, this is definitely the most consistent batch of songs Mac came up with since the demise of his first band, and produced in classic Abbey Road style. Three of the songs became Top 10 hits: the lovely title track, the hard rocking epic production "Jet" (which has obscure-to-the-pont-of-meaningless lyrics) and the lesser known "Helen Wheels" (the dude had over 100 Top 40 hits, it's easy to forget a few of them!)

For this week's special birthday bonus classic album, here is perhaps the greatest guitar album of the 1970's.  Tom Scholz SHREDS!  This record may be a well known best seller (literally all eight tracks are classic rock radio staples), but it is a great guilty pleasure nonetheless.  And when listened to in its album configuration, it is actually even more than the sum of its parts. Heck, the first side in particular is as great a suite of hard rock as has ever been produced!
