The Fiery Furnaces "Blueberry Boat"  2004 (USA)
Siblings Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger were The Fiery Furnaces back in the twenty-aughties decade, until the group went on hiatus in 2011. Their debut album was a charming "weird indie rock" album that was well received by critics. Blueberry Boat was the follow-up, and it is a challenging "weird progressive rock" album that baffled the critics. Their next record Rehearsing My Choir (2005) is the strangest of all, mostly featuring their grandmother telling stories about her life accompanied by their least-catchy music. They dialed back the crazy somewhat on their last few albums, including psychedelic sixties flavored Bitter Tea (2006) and the heavy seventies sounds of Widow City (2007) - both already CAOTWs. I said on the show this week that I had not heard anything about a reunion, but after the show I discovered that they have already reunited, though so far it has only produced one new song released in 2020 and one concert performed in 2021.
