The Undisputed Truth "The Undisputed Truth"  1971 (USA)
The Undisputed Truth released eight albums in the 1970's, though I don't believe they had the same lineup for any two of them; the only constant member was lead singer Joe "Pep" Harris. They were a studio project created by Motown superproducer Norman Whitfield as a vehicle for his most psychedelic and progressive extravagences. Also, Whitfield wrote most of their songs. In fact, he wrote most of the tunes of their early albums for The Temptations, whom Whitfield also produced, making The Truth something of a cover band. They only scored one major hit, a spooky soul groove with paranoid lyrics called "Smiling Faces Sometimes". Normally, The Temptations' versions of  Whitfield's tunes were the shorter radio-friendly versions and The Undisputed Truth's versions were longer and groovier, though in the case of "Smiling" the Temps version is a 12 minute freakout and TUT's is the concise version.
